Green & Healthy Homes Initiative

On October 21, WNC Bridge Foundation welcomed Ruth Ann Norton, President of Green & Healthy Homes Initiative (GHHI), and local WNC stakeholders to learn how communities in WNC can advance urgent home repair while also creating more energy-efficient housing.

All stakeholders in attendance showed particular interest in co-creating equitable green jobs with the urgent home repair work to be accomplished. WNC Bridge will continue to build on this initial day of strategy and work on compact collaborations throughout 2023.

Green & Healthy Homes Initiative is a national organization based in Baltimore, MD, with thirty years of experience working within communities to expand urgent home repair and create more energy-efficient housing. This work is advanced by creating a compact with various stakeholders after completing a needs assessment.

GHHI is highly interested in implementing a compact in Asheville and the surrounding region. Currently, there are no other GHHI efforts in North Carolina. GHHI’s mission is “to address the social determinants of health and racial equity through healthy housing.” WNC Bridge Foundation looks forward to continuing conversations with GHHI.
