Lights Up on Literacy

Parkway Playhouse of Burnsville’s mission is to uplift and unite the local community through the performing arts, inspiring new perspectives and fostering connections among neighbors.

The Playhouse has been awarded a NOW Grant to support the addition of two new literacy camps. One of these, the “Lights Up on Literacy” camp, is designed to help struggling readers combat summer reading loss. This week-long camp, led by licensed reading specialists, integrates theater and art with direct reading instruction to enhance the skills and confidence of young students. Each participant leaves with free books, reading enhancement tools, and innovative approaches to reading that promote fluency and prevent summer reading loss.

"We at Parkway Playhouse are so fortunate to receive a NOW grant for our youngest students. Theatre in itself promotes literacy, and the opportunity for these kids to use this power of dramatic play to enhance their reading skills will help them in their classrooms this year, as they become lifelong learners." ~Jeni Martin, Parkway Playhouse of Burnsville
