Flood Recovery Underway at our Thrift & Estate Store in Biltmore Village
During Hurricane Helene, our retail operations building in Biltmore Village was hit hard, with 14 inches of floodwater filling the space and leaving behind a thick layer of mud.
“We consider ourselves fortunate that the building wasn’t destroyed, unlike so many of our neighbors,” says Skip Wade, director of retail operations. Unfortunately, much of the thrift store and estate sale merchandise was ruined. The flood hit just as we were preparing the showroom for an upcoming sale.
Ten days after the storm, Skip and a small team of employees began the tough task of clearing out the building so ServPro could begin remediation. With 95% of the building’s contents and fixtures needing to be removed, the team worked tirelessly and completed the job in just five days.
The building has since been pressure-washed and treated for mold, and repairs are underway. Skip and the staff are now rebuilding sales counters, cleaning fixtures, and painting. While progress is being made, it will take some time before we’re ready to fully reopen.
For now, we are unable to accept donations and ask that supporters hold onto items until we have enough space to store and display them. “We’ll need a lot to restock the thrift store,” says Skip. “Please stand by!”
We will announce when the thrift store is ready to reopen and when bi-weekly estate sales will resume. Thank you for your continued support!
