Bridging the Sound Gap
Keelin, a fifth grader in the McDowell School District, has been navigating the challenges of congenital deafness for the past five years with the help of a cochlear implant. He also wears glasses, which makes it difficult for him to use headphones that could help reduce background noise.
Through our Children’s Services Fund, WNC Bridge Foundation purchased a personal FM system that connects to his cochlear implant to enhance Keelin’s auditory experience. This setup provides Keelin with optimal access to sound and enables him to hear computer instructions clearly, as the audio is transmitted wirelessly to his cochlear implant, eliminating the need for earbuds or headphones.
