Baskets Full of Sunshine

Last spring, a NOW Grant from WNC Bridge Foundation allowed the 30th Judicial District Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Alliance to provide outreach to 75 families experiencing isolation due to COVID-19 through Mental Health Support Kits.

These kits not only offered mental health support tools but reminded recipients that the Alliance remained a caring resource and staff had not forgotten their clients during extraordinarily challenging times. The special “sunshine” baskets were assembled by the therapy staff and delivered safely and directly to homes.

The Alliance is a non-profit agency serving the seven far western North Carolina counties (Haywood, Jackson, Macon, Swain, Graham, Clay, and Cherokee). They work collaboratively with the local domestic violence-sexual assault programs, area agencies, and the criminal justice system to provide outreach, advocacy, mental health, and training services to empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

“Seeing the smiles of children through the windows in the homes when they received a “sunshine basket” in their driveway or on their porch was a wonderful feeling.”

~Sue Fowler, Executive Director, 30th Judicial District Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Alliance
